The power of plants for healthy ageing

I’m truly in awe of the power of plants and what they can do for our health as we age. They hold important nutrients that we need to live a healthy life.

They’re there for us, readily available and most of us take the power of plants for granted. Instead swapping them for ready meals and fast food, easy to pick up, easy to prepare.

Processed food is often made with flavourings, sugar, table salt, artificial sweeteners and unhealthy fats, these make the meals taste rather nice and are very addictive.

They seduce us, making us believe that fresh natural food is boring.

The companies who produce these foods add the artificial ingredients so that we want more, and we do just that, this makes us gain weight and we need more. We don’t get full because processed foods lack the nutrients that our bodies need. So, what do we do, we keep eating to try and feed our bodies request for proper nutrition. We certainly don’t want to eat fresh food, only if we’re forced to and not for the fun of it, because it tastes awful. Does this all sound familiar? If so, you may just have an addiction to processed food.

It’s not all bad news though!

like any addiction you can get off that path and travel down a better route, and once you do, you may just wonder why you liked processed food to begin with! You may not want to, and I’m not here to dictate, but I am here to help if you if that’s what you would like. Don’t let your age put you off, it’s not too late to start on a healthy turn.

You don’t have to take my word for it, there is more information out there now, like this article in the guardian.

There are lots of sites out there now that offer great tasty recipes for plant-based diets if you want to explore, it’s not the same as when I first became plant based in the 80’s nobody had heard of it and the only meal I could eat out was chips! Thankfully things have now changed for the better.

Over the coming weeks I’ll provide you with some recipes to help you with your energy levels and there are some websites to explore for further information and recipes below
